The book
What kind of book is How to become a rock-solid footballer?
It is a book of lifestyle tips on how to perform better and minimise injury, in other words: what can you do during all those hours outside the club in order to enhance your performance and injury resilience?
How to become a rock-solid footballer describes a new field in sport: lifestyle as medicine and performance-enhancing and injury-resistant factor.
The advice is based on the knowledge, insights and know-how of clinical psycho-neuro-immunology (kPNI).
But what is clinical psycho-neuro-immunology?
KPNI is the multidisciplinary science that studies man as a whole, offering insight into how all human systems are connected and interact and into the way this affects our lifestyle, health and performance.
KPNI combines knowledge from areas such as psychology, neurology, immunology, endocrinology and evolutionary biology.
KPNI defines health not as absence of disease, but as the physical, mental and social capacity to adapt to changing circumstances.
So why was this book written?
This is a book that we felt absolutely had to be written as soon as possible, because there is a great need for the insights, the knowledge and the know-how of the still young science of kPNI and its applications in sport.
On one hand, the demands in football are getting higher and higher – in terms of stress resistance, perception and adaptability, decision making, intensity and speed of execution. On the other hand, today‘s lifestyle is undermining the capacity to handle the workload. This creates problems for which kPNI offers solutions.
The book explains how every ambitious football player at every level can achieve this by making adjustments to his daily life:
- become mentally and physically more stress-resistant;
- make better decisions under pressure and follow up on them with better actions;
- deliver the best possible performance in line with his or her genetic potential.
In the world‘s most popular game of football, there is a great need for this unique book, which meets the needs of today‘s footballer. The authors would like to use it to impact the world of football in a positive way.
Which aspects are covered in the book?
The book contains 18 pointers – in 18 chapters. However, this is not just a guidebook. The authors chose to underpin the recommendations scientifically, to explain thoroughly how exactly they work in the body and why they lead to better performance and fewer injuries. So that every ambitious and keen-to-learn footballer can understand the power of the tips, integrate the knowledge and start applying the tips spontaneously.
This book is one to read and re-read. The same applies to the player‘s entourage, which will be able to inspire and guide the player to adapt his lifestyle.
The book is not an all-or-nothing concept. As Dr. Leo Pruimboom says: the change is the answer and the smallest change makes the biggest possible difference.
Who is this book written for?
This book is written for those coaching football players at all levels, such as trainers and parents. It provides the essential foundation to guide young footballers in their daily lives in an informed way. But of course, it is also written for the ambitious footballer himself who wants to become better and take control of his body, his development, his performance and his career. For the youth player who wants to make the step to the national team with more chance of success and for the mature player who wants to make more optimal use of his qualities while playing.
The objective of the book is to provide as many organizations and individuals as possible, coaches, trainers and eager footballers with the knowledge of how your lifestyle can help you to achieve your full potential. By extension, the rock-solid footballer is a metaphor for any ambitious and keen-to-learn athlete.
